What is Hot Dip Galvanized Jockey Wheel?

Jockey wheel comes in various styles with different carrying capacities. But many people do not know that the surface treatment of the jockey wheel can be hot-dip galvanized. How are hot-dip galvanized jockey wheels produced and what are its advantages?

The surface treatment of 95% trailer jack wheel on the market is zinc plating. Because the zinc plating surface treatment process is simple, and the surface is smooth and beautiful. However, the corrosion resistance of zinc plating is far worse than that of hot-dip galvanized, so the corrosion resistance of zinc plating trailer jockey wheels is far less than that of hot-dip galvanized trailer jockey wheels.

Let us to know what zinc plating is and what hot dip galvanizing is.

Zinc Plating:

Zinc plating, a process also known as galvanization, is the deposition of a thin layer of aluminum onto a metal component to provide a protective layer. The outer surface of the zinc coating oxidizes to form zinc oxide, which results in a matte silver-colored finish. Zinc plating is often applied to iron or steel parts whose surface would rust when exposed to air or water.

Hot Dip Galvanizing:

Hot-dip galvanization is a form of galvanization. It is the process of coating iron and steel with zinc, which alloys with the surface of the base metal when immersing the metal in a bath of molten zinc at a temperature of around 449 °C (840 °F) to get a thick layer. Galvanized steel is widely used in applications where corrosion resistance is needed without the cost of stainless steel, and is considered superior in terms of cost and life-cycle.

The hot-dip galvanized jockey wheel is that puts the black jockey wheel accessories to do hot-dip galvanizing, and then assemble them together.

Compared to zinc plating jockey wheels, the biggest advantages of hot-dip galvanized jockey wheel is their corrosion resistance. The zinc layer of zinc plating is less than 10 μ, but the average zinc layer of hot galvanized is more than 60 μ. Hot-dip galvanized jacks in humid environments are less prone to rust and can last longer time.
