How to Replace a Trailer Fenders?

time2022/05/13

The replacement of the trailer fender is actually very simple. If you learn it, you can save a lot of unnecessary expenses. The following are the steps to replace the trailer fender.

How to Replace a Trailer Fenders?
A violent tire blowout at high speeds has actually "blown up" the aluminum fenders on the under-boat trailer we just bought.

Replacement fenders are available from most major trailer manufacturers, and we were able to obtain aluminum diamond plate trailer fenders from a continental trailer company. Which can be ordered online or found at your local trailer supply store and some large retailers too. If you find a trailer fender that doesn't have pre-drilled holes to attach it to the trailer frame. You can do this:

1. Tools needed for the job include a wrench for the nuts and bolts that secure the fender to the frame, a drill bit with a bit that matches the bolts, and a penetrant to loosen old hardware.

2. If necessary, use a penetrating spray to loosen old nuts and bolts.

3. Use a wrench to remove the hardware securing the damaged fender to the trailer frame bracket. If the nuts, bolts, and washers are undamaged, keep them for reuse. If the bolt is completely frozen, you can use an abrasive tool to cut it.

4. Use spring clips or hold the new fender in place to mark where the holes will be drilled into the fender to secure it to the existing bracket.

5. Most fender mounts, such as those on Continental trailers, provide slotted holes for the hardware to adjust the position of the fender closer or further from the frame before attaching to the mount. Install new fenders using old or new hardware depending on conditions.

6. Drill holes for the mounting hardware in the new fender.

7. Done!
